GURU – SPIRITUAL PREACHERS

A religious teacher and spiritual guide in Hinduism
The word guru means teacher in Sanskrit and other Sanskrit-derived languages like Hindi, Bengali and Gujarati. It originated in a Hindu context and holds a special place in Hinduism, signifying the sacred place of knowledge (vidya).

A guru is a personal spiritual teacher. In ancient India, knowledge of the Veda was transmitted verbally from guru to pupil. The trust in the bhakti, & the love of devotees for a personal God, further increased the importance of Gurus, who were often looked on as living avtar of spiritual truth and were identified with the deity. Gurus prescribe spiritual disciplines to their devotees, who follow their dictates in a tradition of service and obedience
